Wembury Mews Home and Studio / Russell Jones (2022) | Highgate, London
Located in the Highgate Conservation Area, within the London Borough of Haringey, Wembury Mews Home and Studio is a contemporary family house designed by Russell Jones on a compact 200m² backland site previously occupied by a garage.
Completed in 2022, the 127m² home unfolds across four subtly separated levels, organized along a 20-meter central axis that connects the entrance to the garden. Shaped by conservation regulations, overlooking constraints, and limited site access, the architecture responds with interlocking orthogonal volumes, carefully controlled light, and a strong indoor–outdoor relationship.
The timber-frame structure combines boundary brickwork with Siberian Larch cladding. Inside, Douglas fir lines floors, walls, ceilings, and bespoke furniture, creating a warm and immersive spatial atmosphere. Sustainable systems include high-performance insulation, an air source heat pump, underfloor heating, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, and provision for future photovoltaic panels.
This film offers a poetic and cinematic architectural journey through the project , exploring materiality, sequence, light, and proportion rather than a conventional walkthrough. More than a house, Wembury Mews is an urban refuge shaped by the realities of building in London.
