Casa Bola - Experimental Architecture by Eduardo Longo | Full Tour + Architect Interview
Located in São Paulo, Casa Bola stands as one of the most radical and experimental residential projects in Brazilian architecture, a spherical house conceived by architect Eduardo Longo as a response to conventional ways of living, building, and imagining space.
Originally developed nearly 50 years ago, the project emerges from Longo’s desire to move away from heavy, rigid concrete structures toward something lighter, modular, and industrially reproducible. The sphere, the lightest possible volume, becomes both structure and concept, proposing a new architectural logic based on prefabrication, flexibility, and spatial freedom.
During DW! São Paulo Design Week, the project takes on a new dimension through an intervention by Kohler. In a moment where design revisits the dialogue between history, innovation, and experience, Kohler reimagines Casa Bola as part of a broader narrative, one that connects architecture, art, and technology.
As part of the Aberto 05 exhibition, Casa Bola becomes a key cultural node within the city, while Kohler simultaneously activates its flagship space at Alameda Gabriel Monteiro da Silva with the installation Espaço de Transição. Together, these interventions position architecture not just as a backdrop, but as an active medium for storytelling and transformation.
Influenced by masters such as Le Corbusier and Franz Heep, Longo developed a practice rooted in experimentation, constantly navigating the tension between engineering precision and intuitive design. In Casa Bola, this balance becomes visible through trial, error, and invention, resulting in a structure that challenges both technical and aesthetic conventions.
More than a singular house, the project introduces a broader vision: a system of spherical modules that could be plugged into larger residential structures, creating adaptable living units with air, light, and openness on all sides. The void between the spheres becomes as important as the built form itself, redefining density and habitation.
Today, the house is presented in its most essential form, empty, allowing visitors to fully experience its spatial qualities. The absence of furniture amplifies geometry, light, and proportion, revealing the strength of the architecture itself.
