In this video tutorial, I will show you how to create leaf shapes using the power stroke path effect.
I create a small plant with curved leaves by altering the curve of a line, the colour, and the settings of the power stroke. To keep it editable, I use copies of the leaves turned into paths for Boolean operations. This way, I can 'cut' holes into some of the leaves for more detail. These shapes are used as clipping groups for the other leaf elements.
The power stroke is a powerful tool. I had a lot of fun playing with it due. The fact that those shapes can easily be converted to paths is a nice added bonus.
Most of the functionality shown in the video can be created with other software tools such as Adobe's Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Inkscape with minor alterations and different names for the tools used.
