Abstract: In 2023, Info-Cult will celebrate 43 years of serving the public! Founded in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) in 1980, Info-Cult is a non-profit charitable organization that offers information and assistance about groups—their ideology, functioning, and interpersonal relationships. The proposed presentation will provide an overview of Info-Cult regarding its conceptualization of religious, new religious, and cultic movements. The presenters will discuss the circumstances surrounding the creation of the organization and how the conceptualization of the cult phenomenon has evolved over time. They will also highlight how the organization has developed a viewpoint that goes beyond labels such as cults, new religious movements, extremist groups, radical groups, and coercive groups, in order to support people in understanding their experiences in a given group. This is achieved by striving to better understand the group's worldview and its functioning.
