One of the debates you'll often see in health is whether it's all about the bug or all about the terrain. I see this popping up all the time with very heated 'debates' on social media all the time and in my opinion the debate is missing a very key word.

AND

Bug AND Terrain is the approach I've found the be FAR more effective than and overemphasis on one or the other. Microbial overgrowths = candida / methane / SIBO / H2S bacteria / parasites - they all play a role, cause their own set of problems and they all have their own specific approach to control, manage or outright eradicate

BUT

The terrain ie the environment in the gut that shapes what bugs can thrive and survive is equally as important = bile flow / motility / BMs / colonic butyrate levels / stomach acid / enzyme production.

This has been a big lesson over the years supporting chronic and complex cases. Less thinking in binary this OR this - and more a focus on that key word AND.
