Indianapolis Police arrested us on Nov. 29, 2023 for the “disorderly” behavior of taking photos in public. Those charges were dropped but we returned to Indy on April 4, 2024 to see how deep the paranoia in this town goes.
Turns out paranoia runs pretty deep here.
Bank after bank left the comfort and safety of their offices to confront a man outside taking photos and insisting he needs permission from the banks to photograph them and police were called.
Would the responding officers include the seemingly illiterate Sgt. Tony Brown? Will our rights be violated once again simply for being part of the free press?

Laws may vary but, generally speaking, in the United States, if you are in public you are legally able to photograph whatever you can see. Simply put, your eyes can’t be trespassed. Obviously there are some restrictions on this (i.e., bathrooms, dressing rooms, most courtrooms, locker rooms, etc.) but very few when you are in public. If you can see it, you can shoot it (this rule only applies to cameras.) This is not legal advice.
