The first chapter of John’s gospel makes some of the most profound statements in the New Testament. John speaks of the Word, the Logos being with God, that the Logos created everything, and that the Logos became flesh and lived among humanity. Some claim that the Word refers only to God’s spoken words, others, who deny the trinity, that the Logos was an inferior god.
Other theologians point out the echoes of both Old Testament claims and Greek philosophy, whilst their ignorant opponents claim that John was an uneducated fisherman who knew nothing of philosophy.
In this video I refute the false claims, examine how Logos is understood in Scripture and philosophy, and show that both John and Paul were well-educated men who, under the leading of the Holy Spirit, used both Scripture and the writings of one particular philosopher to explain the profound fact that God the Son became the Son of God.
