Anything can be a source of inspiration. Here I took the first 12 digits of the golden ratio expressed in number base 10, mapped them to notes, played those notes on repeat and then improvised some instruments over it.
In the second half of the video, there's a brief explanation about how the music uses the golden ratio. I kept my process very simple (basically mapping digits onto notes) but nothing prevents you from doing something much fancier of course! Oh, and there's nothing too special about the golden ratio for this purpose: any other irrational number (including famous ones like pi or e) could be used in a similar manner (and in fact, I got the idea from a ViHart video, published on pi day = 03/14 = march 14th).
