Gregorian Chant in its original form is an unaccompanied line, traditionally sung by one or more men or boys. Nowadays, it is common to treat the music more freely. Here, I've taken some Gregorian Chant and added an accompaniment to it using my Roland Integra-7 synthesizer.
One difficulty with Gregorian Chant is that the rhythm is flowing naturally, very freely, and as a result our modern scores are less suitable to capture such performance. This is one of the reasons why Gregorian Chant is still shown using the old "Neume" notation system.
The Gregorian chant "puer natus est" exists as recording available in the public domain, made ten years ago by Mem Beth (see his youtube channel here: youtube.com/user/DrMembeth and find the recording here: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Puer.natus.est.ogg ).
