Iconic Arcade just announced the BurgerTime XT arcade cabinet, and the games list is one of the strangest lineups we've seen on a home arcade machine, 18 officially licensed Data East arcade titles, and depending on who you ask, maybe two or three you can name off the top of your head.
In this breakdown I go through the full BurgerTime XT games list, the specs, and what Iconic Arcade is actually selling here. Yes, BurgerTime is on it. So is Burnin' Rubber (better known as Bump 'n' Jump), Lock 'n' Chase, Nitro Ball, and Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory. And then it gets deep: B-Wings, Zaviga, Darwin 4078, Super Real Darwin, Last Mission, Gondomania, Boomer Rang'r, Wonder Planet, Dual Assault, Zippy Bug — plus Birdie Try, Pro Baseball Skill Try Out, and Kamikaze Cabbie, which I promise are real games and not things I made up.
On paper the hardware sounds solid: 9/10 scale at 68 inches tall, 24-inch LCD (19.5 viewable), cam-lock flat-pack construction, lit marquee, lit faux coin door, HDMI out for streaming, Wi-Fi for updates, and a Raspberry Pi 5 running the show. What we don't have yet is a price or a release date — right now it's a wait list, which tells you something on its own.
So who is this cabinet for? Is a shoot-em-up-heavy Data East collection a genuine gift to collectors, or is BurgerTime doing an enormous amount of heavy lifting on that marquee? Let's talk about it.
