Road 35 Kjalvegur Route is one of only two highland crossings in Iceland, the other being Sprengisandur to the east. Icelanders who are used to the highlands don't find this road very challenging because it is simply way to easy and almost every car on the market can drive over the summer. Road 35 usually opens in late May or early June and stays open until the first snow closes it, often in October. Road information are available online via link below.
I have a full video coming up soon where i drove this same routh from the south to north and it turned out to be a way better sightseeing trip than this one. When i drove under the rainclouds on the way, it became clear to me that i would onluy make this into a time lapse.
We are not just driving between large glaciers, but that there are often several weather systems rubbing against each other there in the highlands so i'm often meet with weird cloud formation up there. This is for sure not one of our most beautiful places, but there are several gems there, but this video is however more to shot the big picture fast, and my other Kjölur video will be online soon, normal speed, south to north, starting at this same sign by Gullfoss waterfall.
