I am very happy to have been invited to take part as one of the official judges for this first ever mapping contest for Harry Potter 2 (PC)! Of course there have been competitions like this for other Unreal Engine 1 games but as far as I am aware this is the first of this kind for out all favorite childhood game! And the premise was steep, the three amazing mappers taking part only had 15 days (!) to actually build and finish their custom map and it had to be in a creepy Halloween style since the competition came to it's close right before Halloween.
I have to admit that I was completely blown out of the water with how good those maps turned out! Nowadays people can build custom maps that are just amazing, finished products in 2 weeks, I feel like 10 years ago this would have been a project for several months if not years! So giant shoutouts to all three mappers for giving us some impressive quality maps for this contest!
What I really liked is that all three maps kind of put a focus onto different things and had different kind of strengths and weaknesses, that really made this competition pretty versatile and extra fun to play those maps. We really had it all in terms of range and there were some super well designed segments and just awesome ideas that got excecuted in those maps!
And even though the community voting is now closed because the contest has obviously ended I still hope you are going to enjoy my playthrough of those great maps and my (short) thoughts on them afterwards!
