How does a late Victorian lady (or a modern person dressing like one) achieve the voluminous, sweeping A-line silhouette of 1890s skirts? Cotton organdy! A petticoat is an essential foundation for my 1890s walking suit, and I was inspired by @ModernMantuaMaker on IG to make one so effective it stands on its own. Cotton organdy is a sheer fabric treated with stiffener, so it adds a tremendous amount of body and structure while staying light. Add a little starching, and you get huge floofy skirts with very little weight!
