How long does it take to sew a corset, and can I make a new Victorian corset in time for a party? Join me for a corset making speed run adventure, and then head to squarespace.com/SnappyDragon to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code SnappyDragon.
If you're new to corset sewing, then this is not the corset making tutorial for you, because no one should be sewing a corset under this kind of pressure! I decided to sew a Victorian corset on a time crunch because I needed a new historical corset to wear under my mid-Victorian ball gown. So, how fast can you sew a corset? There are better ways than my methods to sew a corset fast, but this not very quick corset took me 13 hours and 42 minutes over the course of four days. Proper Victorian corset making would have probably been a lot more precise, and how long it took to make a corset would depend on the design. If you're looking for a more sensible Victorian corset tutorial, I made a video last year about my first Victorian corset with a lot of background information. Please enjoy this little corset sewing vlog, and I hope you're better than me about not procrastinating!

![A medieval Spanish Jews dress, but its cosplay?! Historical fantasy inspired by Guy Gavriel Kay
I sewed accurate (ish)11th century Medieval Jewish clothes from Spain / Al-Andalus. And a cosplay from Guy Gavriel Kays historical fantasy book The Lions of Al-Rassan. And its the same outfit.
This costume is the inevitable collision of my love of historical costuming, good fantasy books, and my Judaism. Ive been reconnecting with my Jewish heritage and learning about the history of my people through historical sewing projects to make the clothes they wore. Jews lived all over Europe (and Asia, and Africa) in the middle ages, but present-day Spain was one the best places for a medieval Jew to be. Al-Andalus, as its Islamic rulers called the Iberian peninsula, already had a larger Jewish population than the rest of Europe and quickly gained more by treating Jews better than neighboring Christian territories. While Jehane bet Ishak, the female physician and main character of Lions of Al-Rassan isnt explicitly Jewish, Guy Gavriel Kays universe clearly parallels our own with all the names changed. His historical setting is clear enough that I was able to focus in on the mid-11th century, and design and sew an outfit for Jehane as though she were a real person living in our world.
This costume was entirely hand-sewn, and includes historically accurate, historically-adequate, and completely fantastical elements.
