We’re back in Atomcraft, and this time I genuinely manage to grow rubies using chemistry!

After failing to find enough natural ruby deposits underground, I create molten aluminium and chromium, add my existing ruby crystals and heat the mixture with a laser. Somehow, it works perfectly—and I produce enough rubies to unlock laser pixels and more advanced technology.

That leads me into electronics, including solar panels, wires, buttons, switches and powered machinery. Naturally, my first major invention is not a sensible factory component. Instead, I build an autoloading gun designed to harvest trees.

The prototype can fire a reusable steel bullet, destroy the tree and automatically return the ammunition to the gun. The only remaining problem is working out how to collect all the fallen wood without blocking the next tree from growing.

So this episode includes synthetic rubies, mysteriously easy zinc, my first electronics and the beginnings of an armed automated tree farm. Perfectly normal scientific progress.
