In a recent episode of the Mystery Project, we came across a HuanYang VFD copy which looks very similar, but it's actually a poorly designed fake. Other than the appearance, they don't have much in common.
It's not even significantly cheaper to buy, only cheaper made, apparently someone just makes more money here.
This video shows the internals of both, a genuine HY and the counterfeit VFD, also explains why the copy is not a good choice.
Huanyang VFDs are quite well built for the price and other than the lack of RFI filters and decent programming software, these are good value for money in standard applications. It's certainly a consumer product, therefore most likely not suitable for industrial applications for a number of reasons
