How to unlock the entire "materials" section of the compendium for free
* Aquire the Sheikah Sensor+ and complete the Sunshroom Sensing sidequest given to you by Symin, but do NOT talk to him about restoring "old" pictures on the Sheikah Slate yet.
* Travel to any shop owner (I used the one in Hateno) and sell at least 36 items at once. It doesn't matter if those items are apples, acorns, herbs or even Giant Ancient Cores if you're feeling wasteful, as long as they're from the "consumables" category. You can sell more than 36, but it won't make a difference.
* Now talk to Symin about unlocking "old" pictures on the Sheikah Slate and agree to use the Guidance Stone. Instead of one random default picture from the "materials" section, you will get all of them - entirely for free.
How/why does it work?
The game remembers the amount of items you sold during your last shopping spree for whatever reason and will unlock as many pictures as you sold items - that's why you need ad least 36. If you only sold 8 items during Step 2, you will unlock only 8 free pictures that way, and since you can only (ab)use this glitch once per playthrough you might as well grab the full load of freebies while you can. (If you're already able to buy default pictures, the glitch will no longer work for this playthrough)
Additional information: the first category Symin gives you the free picture for is "materials" by default. However, if you already have all the materials in your compendium before you talk to him, you get a free picture from the "weapons" category. There are a total of 185 weapon pictures. If you use this glitch when you have pictures of all the materials, you can sell at least 185 apples instead (or whatever item you have a ton of) and get every single weapon picture for free.
