Part 17 - Tarrey Town and the Fairy Fountains

Time to spend the hard-earned cash from last time.

For this part, I checked every time before and after "discovering" a Fairy Fountain or location and then checked the counter again after actually unlocking it just to get definite proof that the Fairy Fountains need to be activated and Hudson needs to move to Akkala.

The house in Hateno itself does not increment the counter, but you have to buy it in order to make Hudson move to Akkala. Luckily, that's the only part of the "From the Ground Up" and "Hylian Homeowner" quests that is needed - the house upgrades, the other residents of Tarrey Town, the 100+ more wood bundles and the wedding are entirely optional and got skipped. As for the Fairy Fountains, they, too, need to be activated - and it does not matter in which order you do that. The first always asks for 100 rupees, the second always for 500, the third for 1k and the last one for 10k. If you go to the desert fountain first, THAT one will cost 100 rupees, and if you go to Kakariko last, THAT one will ask for 10k. It's a somewhat persistent rumor that "the desert fountain" is the most expensive one, but his is only due to the fact that most people get there last.

The only one with a fixed price is Malanya, but (s)he is not one of the sisters anyway but another type of deity altogether.

... likewise, you can only upgrade your gear as many times as you have fountains unlocked total, so 2 Fairy Fountains = armor upgrades up to 2-star tier. If a set has an armor set bonus, it will unlock after all pieces are upgraded two times. Apart from that, upgrading only raises the defense value of armor and nothing else. Upgrades do not make the armor effects (like extra stealth or temperature resist) stronger, and there is nothing else to unlock after the set bonus becomes availiable.

Additional information:

- In a playthrough without restrictions and with an unlocked map, you can see that the actual map will change every time a new house is built in Tarrey Town.

- It makes sense that Malanya did not recognize Caddy as "my horse", since she is not registered yet. Malanya only revives/recognizes registered horses, not wild ones. If one of the "special" horses die (Royal White Stallion, Giant Horse) after you registered them, then they will NOT spawn again in the wild as long as they are still in Malanya's Revival List, probably to prevent the player from obtaining multiples of the "unique" horses by catching a new one and then reviving the old one.
