About this video: Playing Minecraft Java Edition with your friends in 26.1.2 is, in my opinion, one of the best ways to enjoy Minecraft. This is video will cover all of the different methods that will let you join your friends in Minecraft Java, so let’s get started.
The first and easiest way to play Minecraft with friends is using a public server. There is a list in the description above to where you can find a bunch of different public Minecraft servers. Just copy these IP addresses, go to multiplayer and use them as your server address when joining. Your friends will join that same IP, and you will be playing together.
There are some limitations to public servers though. You don’t control them which means they can be shutdown at anytime, reset, etc. If you do want more control, you’ll want to create a Minecraft server yourself. There are two methods to do this. Self-hosting on your own PC or using a server hosting company.
Our guide to self-hosting a Minecraft server is linked above. This let’s you create a server on your on own computer, and as long as you have a good computer and don’t mind doing a few technical things like port forwarding, this is a great way to play Minecraft Java with friends.
However, if you want to make running your own server easier, you can using a hosting provider. This allows you to control the server without having as much technical experience. It’s basically like a public server that you control.
From there, if you are the person you’re playing with are on the same internet connection, you can use LAN hosting. This is where you go into your singleplayer world, pause and click “Open to LAN” confirm it, and then your friend will see it at the bottom of their multiplayer menu.
You can also invite your friends to your singleplayer world if you both install the Essential Mod. This will allow you to add your friend with the mod and then invite them to your world like Bedrock Edition.
Lastly, there is Minecraft Realms. This will allow you to play with friends using Minecraft’s own server setup. Generally, though, paid hosting provides more customization and features than realms.
