Feast Of Fiction | How to Make the Spellbook from HOCUS POCUS! | Feast of Fiction @FeastOfFiction | Uploaded October 2017 | Updated October 2024, 15 minutes ago.
INGREDIENTS:
For brownies:
1 ¼ cup of flour
¾ cocoa powder
¾ cup of butter
2 ¼ cup of sugar
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
For decor:
Chocolate icing
White Candy Melts
Tootsie Rolls
Silver Luster Dust
1 Candy coated almond (or Jordan Almond)
Edible Paint (for eyeball)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a 11x7" rectangular pan.
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat, then stir in cocoa.
Remove from heat.
Mix in sugar and vanilla then mix in eggs one at a time.
Stir in remaining ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt)
Bake for 25 minutes.
While brownies are cooking, start building the decor of the book with tootsie rolls. Chocolate taffy is super pliable. Use Tootsie Rolls to create the two snakes in the corner and the one along the spine, as well as the circle around the eyeball. Add indentions to the designs before you paint it.
Melt your candy melts and pipe and spread out into a long rectangle over wax paper. This will go under the long snake along the side. Let set and trim edges to make edges straight.
Color your candy coated like an eyeball (green or blue in color, with a black pupil. Use Tootsie Rolls to set eye into as a top and bottom eyelid.
Once you have shaped all of your tootsie rolls, time to paint with the luster dust. Using a couple of drops of vodka, mix some of your luster dust in a small bowl. Add dust to get a more concentrated consistency. It should only be a little of vodka, which most of it will evaporate out. (this is just the best thing to use for paint drying properly) Paint snakes and such with a paintbrush, let dry and apply another coat.
Once brownies are done baking, let cool for 10 minutes or so before cutting lines into the brownies to mimic the cuts in the spell book.
Using chocolate icing as a glue of sorts, apply your painted and dried snakes and eyeball to the brownie using the spell book as a guide.
In a piping bag, apply small lines (like stitches) to the cuts.
