About this video: Aternos is one of the most popular ways to make a free Minecraft server, and this video shows you exactly how to set one up. We cover everything from creating your Aternos account to getting your server online, finding the server address, joining it in Minecraft, and changing some of the basic server settings.
First things first , go to the Aternos website and click the Play button. From there, you can create an account by choosing a username, agreeing to the terms and privacy policy, and then either signing in with Google or setting up an email and password. Once your account is created, click to create a server, choose a blueprint if you want one, and Aternos will begin setting everything up.
From here, you can optionally connect Google Drive for server backups or skip that step. Your Minecraft server will be offline by default, so click the Start button to turn it online. The first time you do this, you will need to accept the Minecraft EULA. Aternos may also ask if you want browser notifications when your server comes online.
One thing to keep in mind is that Aternos is free, and there are some tradeoffs because of that. Starting your server can take a while, joining can be slower, chunks may load slowly, and you may experience lag while playing. Once your Aternos server is online, copy the server address shown on the server page. Open Minecraft, go to Multiplayer, add a new server, paste in the address, and join. You can now start playing on your Aternos server.
Aternos also gives you options to stop and restart your server, change your server software to options like Forge or NeoForge, and manage your server files and other settings. Just keep in mind that adding mods can increase how much your server lags. Your server can also shut itself down when nobody is playing, so you may need to return to Aternos and start it again later.
