This tutorial shows you how to knit the jewel cross-rib pattern, which is made up of knits, purls and slip stitches. The last row of the repeat is a little bit more challenging, but still fairly straightforward, and involves crossing slip stitches to create a lovely detail.
The result is quite a stretchy grid-like texture, which I think is particularly pretty.
