Are you looking to take your Creality CR-6 SE (or CR-10 Smart) to the next level? Did your 3D printer become a giant paper weight when your strain gauge sensor failed you? Then this video is for you! In this comprehensive guide, I will show you step-by-step how to modify your CR-6 SE to enhance its performance with the addition of a CR Touch or BL Touch module!
Firstly, I will walk you through upgrading the hotend and extruder. I have designed a Bondetch LGX Lite direct drive extruder setup to now include a 5015 part cooling fan with dual fan ducts, plus a hot end mount that eliminates the strain gauge sensor, and a new mount for the CR Touch. By installing a direct drive extruder, you can achieve greater accuracy and reduce filament jams. I have all of the wiring diagrams, firmware settings, and slicer settings taken care of for you.
The CR Touch bed leveling sensor will be much more reliable than the previous strain gauge sensor. It was the root cause of my first layer adhesion problems when I was previously getting very erratic results. I will show you how to setup the new sensor with the new firmware and touch screen. The result will be the smoothest first layers you've ever experienced.
I will also walk you through the mainboard upgrade to the Big Tree Tech SKR Mini E3 V3 which will allow us to use the CR Touch probe. I have developed a set of "Easy Swap" PCBs that will make the wiring job a breeze. Much of the original wiring harness is retained and you won't have to spend hours making custom wiring harnesses for the whole printer. With the new mainboard I have compiled a custom Marlin configuration and I will provide a detailed guide on how to download and install the latest firmware, as well as demonstrate how to adjust the settings to quickly get started printing again!
As a bonus, I've also installed a Big Tree Tech TFT35 V3.0.1 dual mode touchscreen and some NeoPixel RGBW LEDs that respond to printer events. Like everything else, I have the firmware taken care of to make use of all of these modifications.
