Florida Fish and Wildlife officers were conducting land-based patrol when they observed a vehicle with a FL tag just outside the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) gate at the west end of 59th Lane N in Loxahatchee, Palm Beach County. Approaching the gate, they sought to determine if the driver was fishing on the L8 canal beyond it.
Upon approaching the gate, three individuals came into view. One of them was holding a handgun of unknown type, caliber, or make. Further investigation revealed that two suspects had a backpack containing three additional handguns. [REDACTED] claimed two of the handguns belonged to his father, who was unaware of their possession. Inside the same backpack, officers found less than 20 grams of marijuana (referred to as the "devils lettuce") in a resealable bag along with a grinder used for preparing the substance for smoking.
Authorities inquired about the ownership of the vehicle, a white Lincoln, as the tag initially identified it as a black Ford replaced with another tag number according to FWC dispatch records. [REDACTED] explained he had recently put a down payment on the vehicle and was testing it for the week. Officers informed him that the tag did not match the vehicle and arranged for a tow service to recover it.
The vehicle's owner, [REDACTED], was notified of the towing, and the reason for it was explained. Authorities also contacted [REDACTED]'s father, who arrived at the scene to pick up his son and take custody. In total, four handguns, five handgun magazines (including one extended magazine), and 36 rounds of various ammunition were seized and logged as evidence at the Jupiter Temporary Evidence Storage lockers.
