Central Locking not working? A very common fault on old cars. Here we show how to fix both the front and rear door lock motors on a Landrover Freelander 1. The recommended route is to change the brush section of the worn motor for a compatible one from a new motor which can be bought very cheaply for around £1 on ebay. A couple of alternative methods are shown for dismantling and fixing. Most of the video is on fixing the front door lock with a smaller section at the end on the rear door lock, which is a bit easier, but uses the same technique for fixing the electric motors, so that bit is not duplicated. It looks more daunting than it is. With new brushes it should last as long as a new one. I wouldn’t recommend second hand locks as they will probably also have worn motor brush. New locks are around £90 so not cheap.
Here are the new electric motors that I bought. I just used the ends of these motors containing the brushes to save the hassle of trying to remove and refit the gear on each motor and to get the right shaft length:
