This stitch pattern makes a very dense fabric. It would be very pretty for hand towels, place mats, baskets, etc. I have an example of this stitch on a scarf, which looks woven, not knitted.

Pattern:
- Here is the stitch pattern to work flat using Portuguese Style Cast on (shows the pretty side right on the front of the fabric) OR any long tail cast on if you prefer. Cast on an odd number of stitches.

- Row 1 (right side): *Knit 1, slip 1 with yarn in front*, repeat between the * across to one stitch left before end of row , K1;

- Row 2: *Purl 1, slip 1 with yarn in back*, repeat between the * across to one stitch left before end of row, P1.

- NOTES: when you slip stitches, slip them purl wise. You might use a needle one or two sizes bigger that what the ball band recommend so it is not so dense and it does not curl up.
