In this video I show you how I build speaker stands. These are DIY speaker stands for heavy studio monitors built out of MDF and wood and filled with quikreet sand. Sand is used to help increase the density of the stand so that it does not resonate with the speaker's movements. These stands are then placed in our music studio ( see this video where lighted crown molding was installed youtu.be/9SV7-c4xt8I ) and Yamaha HS-8 monitors were placed on them.
Building the Stands:
1) Square one end of all of the pine boards on your miter saw.
2) Cut the pine boards down to the desired length
3) Drill countersink holes on both sides of the face board along the length.
4) Use adhesive on the edges of the boards and afix the face board to it using the #8 wood screws. Start in the center and work your way towards both ends so you can move the board as necessary. Scrape off any excess adhesive.
5) Once you have the column built, square the ends off on the miter saw and run the face through your planer (be careful not to hit the wood screws) and sand the stands with your sander.
6) On the base and the top drill several countersink holes where you will screw in the top and the bottom to the stand.
7) Afix the stand to the base using wood glue and wood screws. Wipe off the excess wood glue with a wet paper towel. Sand the bottom of the base.
8) Fill the stand with sand and pack it down to the top.
9) Afix the top to the base using wood glue and wood screws. Wipe off the excess wood glue with a wet paper towel. Sand the top of the stand.
10) Dust off the stands and paint them with the Rustoleum spray paint. Let them dry before placing them in your studio.
11) After placed in the studio place isolation pads on top of the stand and then place the speakers on top.
