After watching his great-grandmother struggle with dementia, Dr Zeke Steer set out to find a better way to support people like her.

His journey led him to a PhD at Bristol Robotics Laboratory, and eventually to founding Milbotix.

That’s where smart socks were born. They look and feel just like ordinary socks, but are woven with tiny conductive threads that can track heart rate, sweat levels and movement to give real-time insights into someone’s wellbeing.

We visited Bristol Robotics Lab to see how these smart socks and other emerging technologies are helping support people living with dementia: watch our related video to see.
