The Natural History Museum is home to 80 million specimens: from plants to beetles to huge whales. And studying them can tell us how the planet is changing.
But most of these specimens are sitting in storage. So NHM and museums around the country are setting out to make their natural history collections available online. We spoke to Helen Hardy, previous Deputy head of Digital, Data and Informatics, about how they digitise their collections and just how important it is to look at these specimens.
This is all part of DiSSCo UK, a 10-year national programme made up of over 100 partners, digitising and bringing together their natural science collections.
