How Increasing Ocean Stratification Is Harmful to Marine Life and Carbon Sequestration
I discuss this second excellent article written by Tom Harris and Jan Umsonst on the strengthening ocean stratification (increased layering, or decoupling between shallow surface waters and the deeper ocean), and the huge consequences to all marine life.
Increased stratification is leading to worsening Marine Heat Waves (MHWs), increased ocean acidification (lowering pH levels), worsening hypoxia and anoxia (de-oxygenation), increases mortality of marine plants and animals, and reduced carbon sequestration to the deep ocean and ocean sediments (failing carbon sink).

Science of Superforecasting - Global Warming Rise: we blew past 1.5C, how about 2C, 2.5C, to 4C?

It looks like global average temperature has already blown past 1.5C. When will we cross 2.0? 2.5? 3.0?, 3.5? and even 4.0?
I chat about what 5 different prestigious climate groups think? I summarize the spread, and the aggregate mean, and then give the Beckwith Superforecast:)
What do you think? Are you a superforecaster, or do you just think that you are?
We already passed 1.5C - happened, in last few years
When do we pass 2.0C. Group spread is 2034 to 2039 with mean of 2037. Beckwith guess 2033.
How about 2.5C. Group spread is 2044 to 2052 with mean of 2048. Beckwith guess is 2041.
OK, what about passing 3.0C. Group spread is 2054 to 2065 with mean of 2060. Beckwith superforecast is 2050.
Anybody for 3.5C. Group spread is 2065 to 2077 with mean of 2072. Beckwith guess is 2058.
Finally, when will we cross 4.0C. Group spread is 2075 to 2090 with mean of 2084. Beckwith guess is 2066.
Of course, a supervolcano (natural or induced:) will negate all this since humanity likes to eat food...

Preprint of Scientific Paper: Global Warming has Accelerated Significantly
Abstract.
Recent record-hot years have caused a discussion whether global warming has accelerated, but previous analysis found that acceleration has not yet reached a 95% confidence level given the natural temperature variability. Here we account for the influence of three main natural variability
factors: El Niño, volcanism, and solar variation. The resulting adjusted data show that after 2015, global temperature rose significantly faster than in any previous 10-year period since 1945.

Profound Change in Global Weather Statistics: Large Fraction of Earth Gets Higher Heat and More Rain
Clearly, extreme weather extremes are on the rise around the globe, affecting much larger fractions of the Earth surface and more people and infrastructure.
In this video I chat about increases in heat events with temperatures over 30 C (86 F) and extreme heat events with temperatures over 40 C (104 F). I also chat about increases in extreme precipitation events, with 24 hour rainfall over 50 mm (about 2 inches) and in even more extreme events with rainfall over 90 mm (about 3.5 inches). The time frame from 1980 onward is examined in the peer-reviewed scientific paper.

Peer reviewed scientific paper in journal Science Advances:
Global record-breaking recurrence rates indicate more widespread and intense surface air temperature and precipitation extremes
Abstract
We analyzed the evolution of extreme annual surface air temperature and rainfall on Earth, based on the recurrence rate of record-breaking events, and found the highest recurrence rates for record-high annual temperatures in the tropics, as opposed to the polar regions with the fastest warming. Both recurrence rates and the global surface area fraction with daily mean surface air temperatures exceeding 30° and 40°C provide further evidence for extremely hot years becoming more common and widespread. A similar analysis for precipitation highlighted some regions with more record-high annual total precipitation and others with record-low annual precipitation typically associated with drought. A multi-model ensemble of 306 runs with global climate models [Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6 (CMIP) Shared Socioeconomic Pathways 2-45 (SSP2-45)] reproduced the statis-tics of record- breaking high temperatures, but there were some differences for the reanalysis precipitation record-breaking recurrence rates. The global climate model simulations suggested a slightly altered geographical pattern for record-breaking annual precipitation recurrence rates.
