So pretty much all objects have two textures, Diffuse which is the main texture, and Normal/Gloss which if you don't have the mesh looks shiny and doesn't have bumps/ridges. But some models have more than two textures. Some have an additional one called environment which controls how light is reflected. By changing that you can tint the color without having to sacrifice the quality of the texture because it will still have the same main textures. The name of the texture I used for a gold color is dlc01\cubemaps\lavacubemap_e.dds
Thing is most objects don't have an environment texture. All the carved Nordic gear does except for the shield. This is why the Gold Nordic shield doesn't look as good as the other armor.
