What is farmer direct trade and how is it different from fair trade? We wanted to better understand the process so we followed the Calgary-based owner of Baya Rica Cafe (a small coffee roaster in Bridgeland) on a buying trip to Costa Rica. We met the farmer, toured the land, saw the coffee growing process and discovered the benefits of building a direct relationship before doing business.
