Coral adaptation to the impacts of climate change – including increasing average water temperatures and more frequent and extreme heatwaves – will be critical to sustaining functional reefs into the future.

Warming ocean temperatures are locked in, meaning emissions reductions alone are no longer enough to safeguard coral reefs for the next generation.

The Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program is working on the Research and Development to restore corals at scale while helping them adapt to a warmer future.
