I've always wondered how accurate torque wrenches are, so I decided to test them. I fabricated an arm on a bearing that I can "torque", with a fixed length scale one foot out from the pivot point, giving an accurate reading of the foot pounds of torque being applied. I got my hands on 6 different 1/2" drive torque wrenches, ranging in price from $20 - $500, and tested them all and compared the results. I also explored some of the math behind the rotational force being applied at different angles.
