1982 marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of Wichita Falls. To celebrate, the Wichita Falls Bicycle Club proposed a 100-mile bicycle ride in the triple-digit summer heat. Repeated the following year (and every year thereafter), the appropriately named Hotter'N Hell Hundred evolved from a one-off event to a four-day cycling festival featuring multiple routes and attracting thousands of riders from around the world.
