A man killed his partner and their child at a home daycare in Minneapolis before taking his own life on Wednesday, according to authorities.
"This is a horrific, tragic situation for any community, especially here in Hopkins, where we don't see this type of crime," Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson said during a news conference.
The chief said six other "very young" children were inside the daycare at the time of the attack, which was around 9 a.m. local time, but were not hurt. The children were safely reunited with their parents, he said.
Johnson said police were called to the home after another parent arrived to drop off a child and saw the attack. That parent contacted police, prompting an emergency response to the home.
