Today I’m canning up the chicken broth we started the other day and trying to get a few things checked off the list before I have to head out. While I’m straining and jarring everything, I’m also sharing where my mindset has been lately when it comes to keeping a well stocked pantry and making more of what we use at home.

I walk you through how I freeze or can chicken broth, why homemade broth is so much better than store bought, and then we jump into making a simple liquid dish and hand soap along with the dishwasher powder I’ve been using. It’s not perfect, but it works for us and I like knowing exactly what’s in it. This video is a little bit canning, a little bit homemaking, and a lot of just doing the next practical thing.
DIY Liquid Dish Soap or Hand Soap
1/4 cup castile soap
Water to fill container
20 drops lemon essential oil
10 to 15 drops tea tree or thieves essential oil
Shake gently to combine
DIY Dishwasher Powder
2 cups borax
2 cups baking soda
1 cup Epsom salt or Himalayan salt
1 cup citric acid
40 to 45 drops lemon essential oil
Use about 1 tablespoon per dishwasher load
Use plain white vinegar as a rinse aid
