Another five inch timber. This one is hewn entirely with a 2.5# boy's axe/half axe. I wanted to explore how functional hewing with a very small axe could be. I also wanted to get some footage of hewing a corner off square, and a better angle of my foot position while making the scoring cuts when joggling a side. In my last hewing video some commenters had stated the were concerned for my toes given my foot position and the type of shoes I was wearing. So here you can see exactly where my feet and toes are with relation to the cut.

I also tried a technique of hewing small flats on the undersurface of the log to stabilize it while hewing the first side. I copied this from Olof Anderson in the video "Virkesberedning - Rekonstruktionen av Södra Råda medeltidskyrka" youtube.com/watch?v=U8DD5NQ1L7c&list=PLGQ0YYG8MKkVt7GurM8osF45n8vsNInh_&t=1649s&index=4 A highly recommended video.
