Henry V of England ordered the execution of many French prisoners at the Battle of Agincourt. After the English army had defeated the French charge, reports reached Henry that another French attack might be forming and that prisoners in the rear could potentially rearm themselves. Fearing his exhausted and numerically inferior army might be overwhelmed if the captives revolted during a renewed assault, Henry commanded that many of the prisoners be killed, sparing only the most valuable nobles who could be held for ransom.
