Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride took place on the night of April 18, 1775. Revere, a Boston silversmith and patriot, rode from Boston to Lexington to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were marching to arrest them and seize colonial weapons. Alerted by a signal from the Old North Church, Revere and other riders like William Dawes and Samuel Prescott spread the alarm to local militias. His ride helped ensure that colonial forces were prepared for the Battles of Lexington and Concord the next day, which marked the start of armed conflict between Britain and the American colonies.
