In this video, I consider the outcome of the survey for an air source heat pump by Octopus energy. Now that the car is fully electric, it's time to turn to de-carbonising heating and hot water in the home. We consider how we may be able to solve two issues in the home: improving comfort on the hot water system and reducing gas energy consumption. But in the jungle of new and old options, it's hard to be clear what is the best way forward.
So is an air source heat pump (ASHP) a good candidate? We review the Octopus quote and aim to answer five key questions: would it heat the house well enough? would it be too noisy? would it create a lot of disruption in terms of work in the house? would it pay back vs traditional systems, and would ongoing costs be lower? and could we live with the change?
I try to mix actual consumption data and measures in the home to double check a few claims on energy usage and costs.
