📜 Video's transcript:
You have probably already seen advanced lyre players "adding" notes to their lyre by playing on different parts of their strings; I am talking about the "Harmonics," an astounding skill, no doubt!
At first sight, this might look "magical" and too difficult for most of us. But, let me assure you that it is possible and quite doable for every lyre player, no matter your level.
In this video, I am going to share with you 5 secrets for playing perfect harmonics, starting with the theory and going all the way up to the practical aspects of this amazing skill.

#1 Understand the Mathematics Behind the Harmonics
First of all, we really need to understand the mathematics behind Harmonics. And this isn't so difficult, as it might sounds.
Pythagoras, the ancient Greek philosopher, was the one who proved that there is a direct connection between sound and mathematic ratio.
He used his monochord, a string instrument with only one string as the name in Greek implies, and divided its string into equal parts: in half, in thirds, in fourths, and go on.
As the story goes, he then realized that these produced ratios were the reason why the string sounded differently.
Putting his theory into practice, if we have a string tuned in note C and play the harmonic on 1/2, we will get the note C one octave higher!
If we do the same on 1/3, then we will get a fifth higher or the note G!
And, if we do the same on 1/4, then we will get the note C again, but this time two octaves higher!
And we can do that everywhere on our lyre, producing 3 more notes on every string!

#2 Find the Perfect Spot on your String and Mark it
As you try to do that, you will soon realize that it is crucial hitting each string on the right spot with precision! You need to hit the string on its 1/2; anything close by will not produce a clear note.
So, the next tip (tip number 2) is to spend the needed time to find these precise spots on every string and then mark them!
To do that, use your index finger on the left hand and gently touch the string from the backside of your lyre, approximately where you think that the perfect spot is each time. Then, hit the string with the index finger of your right hand to produce a sound.
If the sound is not clear enough, move your left-hand index up and down on the string until the produced note is what you desire.
When you find the perfect spot, use a marker to make a visual sign. Then, move on to the next harmonic.
Don't forget to do that for every harmonic and for every string of your lyre. In the end, you will have something like this.
Now, it is much easier to produce a harmonic whenever you need it!

#3 Exercise Daily, as Much as you Can, to Strengthen your Muscle Memory
But even now that you have marked the perfect spots on your lyre, it is not easy to produce clear notes, clear harmonics, isn't it?
