While YouTube has unfortunately blocked this video for United States viewers, I have decided to upload it anyway for international audiences where it remains visible. Maybe perhaps one day the block will be lifted.
On a rather lazy Sunday in December of 2002, I was looking at the Dish Network program guide, and noticed one of the many many shopping channels was apparently showing a holiday concert from the US Navy. I decided to record it and recently just found it again, digitized it, and I'm now sharing this here for the Christmas season.
What happened was that the Navy and Dish Network decided to air a live broadcast of that year's Christmas concert, and Dish decided to preempt programming on one of their shopping channels (in this case, ACN, now known as Jewelry Television). In hindsight, I don't know if this was a good idea. I only found the concert by just looking through the guide and other than that, I never seen any promotions for this concert on any of the Dish Network info channels. And ACN was a little-viewed shopping channel that was also very low budget and cheap looking and most satellite TV viewers back then simply ignored these shopping networks.
The concert also appears to have been syndicated to individual TV stations as suggested by the opening narration. Since this was produced by the US Navy, it can be assumed this concert is in public domain.
