Here is an odd little "sign off" of sorts if you want to call it that. At the time of this recording, Sioux City's CBS affiliate, KPTH-TV 44.3, signs off for a few hours on early Saturday Morning, from around 2:30am to 5am. The recording here is preceded by the end of "Top 10" and a couple commercials and promos.
But it's more of a "doze off" than anything as the channel simply cuts to a black screen and nothing else. No Star Spangled Banner or even a static station ID slide... just a simple cut to continuous black screen after a legal ID promo.
Trust me, this is how it really is. And KPTH has been doing their weekly "sign off" like this for a couple years now. For those who aren't in the know, CBS in Sioux City used to air on KMEG-TV 14, but owner Sinclair Broadcast Group decided to move it to a subchannel of their co-owned Fox affiliate KPTH, leaving KMEG to run several lower-tier digital networks instead.
Since I live quite far from Sioux City, I picked this up during a tropospheric DX opening and recorded it to my OTA DVR. I believe this is the only station in Sioux City to sign off at some point during the week.
