My Horseweed spindle on a Bracket Fungus fire board would not produce after 2 attempts. The fungus was just too soft. I broke out the handy dandy Water Oak fire board. I thought I'd I knock out an easy ember from an existing divot, but it turned out that the divot was heavily glazed. LOL! I had to do 100 floats just to grind through all that glazing, get into the good material, and start making dust.
After all the wind, fireboard change, and glazing issues the ember came easily. I fortified it with bracket fungus pieces and got a wind blown fire started in my Pine Needles tinder bundle.
