Another off the cuff vid successfully getting a coal/ ember using the hand drill method (fire by friction).
Used a Palm Tree branch for the fireboard and a Horseweed stalk for the spindle.
What seems to work best for me is to spend a few moments warming up the fireboard with casual spinning (floating technique) then gradually increasing speed and pressure. More speed than pressure gives me the best results.
Also, having a proper notch makes quite a difference. A wide keyhole-like notch has worked best for me. Wider than what you'd use for a bow drill.
