Griffiths is a ‘grower’ piggery, where weaned piglets from Macorna Pastoral’s breeder piggeries are sent. Inside the sheds, investigators found pigs crowded together in filthy pens and sleeping on concrete floors with no bedding.
Around 90% of Australian pigs are housed indoors during all stages of their lives, from birth until slaughter. This leads to physical and psychological stress due to the inability to express their natural behaviours, as well as the inability to escape aggression from other pigs and piggery workers.
