I had a berry good walk on the trail this morning. I ate several handfuls of Blackberies and later on found this piece of cross tie. I scraped this Fatwood substitute to Ferro Rod ignite and then used it for a bow drill bearing block.
Cross ties contain Creosote which is a probable human carcinogen. So, only fire it up in an emergency situation.
I’ve worked with cross ties a lot in my life building garden borders and retaining walls. They can still be bought old used ones, 8 1/2 footers from Lowe’s for $30.
