I've had a tree swallow 'grid' for 17 years now and for the last 3 years, I've been experimenting with offering 2 nest boxes on one post- hoping to get a pair of bluebirds nesting back-to-back with a pair of tree swallows. The first year, a bluebird pair successfully nested with a pair of tree swallows in the paired combination. The second year, 2 pair of tree swallows successfully nested back-to-back on the same post.
This year, I offered 3 paired configurations and now have 6 pairs of tree swallows nesting in these nest boxes. This is a video of my nest checks on June 17, 2023.
