On 6/19/2023 at 13:53 we responded to 310 SR 36 (Home Depot) for a report of shoplifting. Upon arrival, we observed a male sitting in the loss prevention office with a Home Depot employee. The Home Depot employee stated that the man was observed taking 20 cases of flooring valued at a total cost of $1,319.80 and placing them on a flat cart. The man then attempted to return flooring that he did not purchase and get a refund in store credit due to him not having a receipt. After the man was refused the refund, he walked outside the store past all points of sale where he was stopped.
A certification in support of probable cause form was filled out by the Home Depot employee. The man was advised that he was under arrest for shoplifting. He was then placed in double-locked handcuffs behind his back, and searched (yielded negative for weapons or contraband). The man was then placed in the back of patrol unit 17.
He was transported to police headquarters where he was fingerprinted, photographed, and released on summons S-2023-000042 (Shoplifting 3rd Degree).
The man was served with a Notice Against Trespass informing him that he was not to return to the Home Depot.
